“Where are they now?” WRDTC Alumni share their post-PhD experiences and achievements…
Manuel Ojeda Cabral (Planning Pathway, University of Leeds)
Manuel completed his PhD in Economics in 2014-15 and is now working as a Research Fellow in Transport Economics and Appraisal at the Institute for Transport Studies (ITS) at the University of Leeds. His PhD thesis is a contribution to the existing knowledge on the empirical estimation of the ‘value of travel time savings’, a crucial element of cost-benefit analysis in the transport sector.
Just after submitting his PhD, he joined ITS as a post-doc in the field of Choice Modelling, an area where he had gained expertise through his doctoral training. Manuel contributed to several national and European research projects. In particular, he was lucky to be there when the Department for Transport (DfT) commissioned a new national value of travel time study, in which ITS played an important role. One year later, he moved into his current research fellow position. At ITS, he has contributed to several exciting research projects and teaching courses, collaborating with different people across the department as well as internationally. At the same time, he has continued to develop his personal research, publishing his work in journals like Transportmetrica or Transport Policy.
Manuel is passionate about research in economics, and he feels extremely lucky to be able to spend his time on it every day. He is very thankful to all who helped him to get where he is.
