The White Rose Social Sciences Doctoral Training Partnership, accredited by the Economic and Social Research Council in 2016, is a collaboration in the social sciences at the White Rose Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York, in partnership with the Universities of Bradford, Sheffield Hallam, Hull, and Manchester Metropolitan.

It enables PhD students to participate in national and international networks of industrial partners, opinion formers, policy makers and academics. It aims to produce doctoral graduates with outstanding skills and flexibility.

Formal and informal training courses, seminars, summer schools and workshops sit alongside the support of academic supervisors, Departments and Faculties, and the provision of opportunities beyond the University, to create a research environment in which postgraduates can thrive.

Our Collaborations

The DTP is seeking a substantial increase in the number and type of collaborative opportunities available to PhD students. Collaborations are sought in non academic organisation in the public, private or third sector on projects that have been developed with the partner and include substantive knowledge exchange.

The DTP offers a minimum of 39 ESRC PhD studentships/awards per annum. The 2018-19 WRDTP ESRC studentships/awards competitions are now open.
