The White Rose Social Science Doctoral Training Centre, accredited by the Economic and Social Research Council in 2011, is a collaboration across the social sciences at the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York.

By combining the expertise of the White Rose Universities, the DTC delivers excellent supervision, first class training and a vibrant intellectual environment for postgraduate research students. It enables PhD students to participate in national and international networks of industrial partners, opinion formers, policy makers and academics. It aims to produce doctoral graduates with outstanding skills and flexibility.
The DTC offers a wide range of 3 and 4 year programmes leading to the award of a PhD. Formal and informal training courses, seminars, summer schools and workshops sit alongside the support of academic supervisors, Departments and Faculties, and the provision of opportunities beyond the University, to create a research environment in which postgraduates can thrive.

Collaborations are sought in non academic organisation in the public, private or third sector on projects that have been developed with the partner and include substantive knowledge exchange.
