why white rose By combining the expertise of the White Rose Universities, the DTC delivers excellent supervision, first class training and a vibrant intellectual environment for postgraduate research students. It enables PhD students to participate in national and international networks of industrial partners, opinion formers, policy makers and academics. It aims to produce doctoral graduates with outstanding skills and flexibility.

The DTC offers a wide range of 3 and 4 year programmes leading to the award of a PhD. Formal and informal training courses, seminars, summer schools and workshops sit alongside the support of academic supervisors, Departments and Faculties, and the provision of opportunities beyond the University, to create a research environment in which postgraduates can thrive.

Our Collaborations

The DTC is seeking a substantial increase in the number and type of collaborative opportunities available to PhD students. Collaborations are sought in non academic organisation in the public, private or third sector on projects that have been developed with the partner and include substantive knowledge exchange.

ESRC Studentships & Funding

The DTC offers a minimum of 48 fully funded ESRC PhD studentships per annum. The 2013-14 ESRC studentships competition is now open. Application  deadline for students is 1 February 2013.
